This program sponsors major studies of important aspects of American politics. The program's focus this year is the presidential primary process. Political science professors James Gibson and Melanie Springer are preparing a national survey of public attitudes toward the process and reform proposals. Director Steven Smith and Professor Melanie Springer are editing a volume of essays about the strengths and weaknesses of the current process and the proposals for reform.
