Kelsie Hart joined WashU in May 2025 as a Grants Specialist II (Pre-award) with Arts & Sciences’ Grant Administration Integrated Network (GAIN). She is the dedicated specialist for pre-award activity within the Weidenbaum Center, serving the departments of Economics, Political Science, and Sociology.  Kelsie helps faculty navigate the application process for external grant funding and ensures compliance with all applicable federal, sponsor, and university regulations and policies. Kelsie previously worked as a curator and data manager for the Shumla Archaeological Research and Education Center in San Marcos, Texas, which honed her organizational expertise and knowledge of adhering to specific procedures to maintain compliance.

Some of her responsibilities include:

  • Proposal preparation and submission
  • Ensuring that research proposals adhere to sponsor guidelines
  • Managing budgeting and analysis for proposals
  • Gathering information for protocols and non-scientific proposal components
  • Coordinating with the post-award specialist and Office of Sponsored Research Services to ensure timely implementation of contracts and subcontracts
  • Tracking and maintaining online database of grants submitted, awarded, rejected, etc.
  • Staying current on federal and university developments regarding research administration and complex regulations
