Mirvali Ismailov joined WashU in November 2024 as a Senior Grants Specialist (Post-award) with Arts & Sciences’ Grant Administration Integrated Network (GAIN). He is the dedicated specialist for post-award activity within the Weidenbaum Center, serving the departments of Economics, Political Science, and Sociology. Mirvali coordinates the management of awarded external funding to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, sponsor, and university regulations and policies.

Mirvali previously worked as a senior grants manager for the University of Westminster and as a budget analyst and grants officer for the U.S. State Department.

Some of his responsibilities include:

  • Managing faculty post award and payroll sourcing activities
  • Coordinating with the pre-award specialist and Office of Sponsored Research Services to ensure timely implementation of contracts and subcontracts
  • Reviewing notices of award (NOA), including sponsor award documents, and noting any special terms and conditions as well as committed effort to SPA and PI
  • Assisting PI to submit annual agency reports (e.g., Research Performance Progress Reports/RPPRs).
  • Coordinating the proper transfer of PI grants and contracts into WashU.
  • Managing subawards, including, receiving the subaward invoice, reviewing and forwarding to PI for approval
  • Approving purchasing documents and provide guidance to purchasing staff on appropriate expenditures according to specific grant policies
  • Serving as internal liaison and grant content representative with SPA to ensure that all funds are set up in a timely manner; prepare any necessary project advances, no-cost extensions, and ensure that funds are carried forward as appropriate
  • Staying current on federal and university developments regarding research administration and complex regulations
